Stride for Safe Place Virtual 5k
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Stride for Safe Place? Stride for Safe Place is a virtual 5K benefiting Hanover Safe
Place during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Participants complete a 5K anytime during
run week - April 20–24 - and raise funds and awareness for survivors of sexual assault right
here in Hanover County.
What does "virtual" mean? Virtual means you can complete your 5K anywhere, anytime
during April 20–24! Run your neighborhood, walk a local trail, hop on a treadmill, or explore
somewhere new. There is no set location, no start line, and no crowd - just you, your miles,
and your mission.
Does it have to be a run? Absolutely not! Walk, run, hike, bike, roll - however you move
counts. This event is open to all fitness levels and abilities. The most important thing is that
you participate and raise awareness for survivors.
Does it have to be done all at once? Nope! You can complete your 5K all in one go or
spread your miles out across the week. Do what works best for you.
How do I track my miles? Hanover Safe Place uses Network for Good to manage
fundraising and donations for Stride for Safe Place. Mile tracking is done separately through
whatever fitness app or device works best for you. Popular options include Strava,
MapMyRun, Apple Health, Fitbit, Google Fit, or even a simple pedometer. Once you
complete your 5K, screenshot your results and share them on social media with
#StrideforSafePlace to show your miles in action!
How does the fundraising work? When you registered, a personal fundraising page was
created just for you. You share that page link with your friends, family, and coworkers and
ask them to donate in support of your run. All donations made through your page go directly
to Hanover Safe Place.
Is there a fundraising minimum? There is no required minimum - but we encourage every
participant to set a personal goal and go for it! Even small goals add up when everyone is
striding together.
How do I share my fundraising page? Log into your account on the campaign platform to
find your personal page link. From there you can share it via email, text, or social media. We
have ready-made email templates, text message templates, and social media graphics
available to make sharing as easy as possible - no writing or designing required!
Where does the money go? Every dollar raised through Stride for Safe Place stays local
and goes directly to Hanover Safe Place to fund crisis hotline support, counseling, legal
and community advocacy, emergency shelter, case management, housing support, and
prevention education for survivors in Hanover County.
Can I participate as a team? Yes! Grab your friends, coworkers, or family members and
stride together. Teams are a great way to multiply your fundraising impact - imagine three
people each raising $1–$5 per mile!
